The CLARA facility at STFC, Daresbury Laboratory has been recently upgraded from 35 MeV to its full design energy of 250 MeV and is currently being commissioned. The facility includes a 120 TW laser to facilitate combined electron-photon experiments. At this meeting, the CLARA team will provide an update on the beam and laser commissioning plans and will provide an expected timeline when a beamtime call will be issued for user experiments.
Back in 2019, we solicited input from the user community to allow us to best design the full energy beam exploitation (FEBE) beamline in a dedicated experimental hutch. Based upon this input, the FEBE design has been realised and we will summarise the kind of experiments that can be carried out. However, we recognise that there may be new ideas from our previous CLARA users, and we also anticipate new users to use this facility which is unique in Europe. We would therefore like to gather these ideas at this meeting. Please indicate if you would like to present your idea during the registration process. We expect this to be brief (~10 minutes) and at high level, without going in details of the precise experiment.
To help our users, a slide deck to summarise capability of the CLARA facility is now available below. You can also find a description of FEBE in our paper: Specification and design for full energy beam exploitation of the compact linear accelerator for research and applications (aps.org)
