UK Muon Collider and nuSTORM - 2nd Collaboration Meeting

Europe/London
Description

The 2020 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics recommended that muon beam R&D should be considered a high-priority future initiative due to the excellent potential for physics studies at a muon collider, and that a programme of experimentation to determine neutrino cross sections is required.

An international collaboration formed in which the UK has a leading role thanks to past and ongoing investment in MICE, EMMA and FFA designs leadership in nuSTORM and expertise in targetry. The first meeting of the UK muon beams collaboration was held in August 2020. A paper was submitted to the Particle Physics Advisory Panel in December 2020 and an interim submission was made to the Particle Physics Technology and Accelerator Panel in June 2021 (both are attached to this page).

The international collaboration has requested that potential collaborators sign it's Memorandum of Collaboration and is now making plans to submit an EU design study as part of TIARA. Meanwhile, the Particle Physics Technology Advisory Panel is submitting plans to STFC Technical and Accelerator Board for detector and accelerator R&D to support the particle physics programme over the next decades.

In this meeting we will discuss these opportunities and the potential for UK colleagues to support the international collaboration.
