Description

Materials are in the supply chain of manufacturers, so that materials data play a crucial role for the digital product passport, e.g., in the form of life cycle analysis data and metadata or as a dedicated digital materials passport. The different regulations and standards that put in place the various brands of digital product passports will also play out in the form of requirements on materials data availability, quality, and semantics. The relevant regulations include the Batteries Regulation, CPR, ESPR, and Textile Labelling Regulation and more product-specific regulations (delegated acts), while CEN-CENELEC JTC 24 issues relevant standards. The upcoming EU Advanced Materials Act will also be relevant to engineering/physics data infrastructures acquiring and holding materials data.

The aim of this poster contribution is simply to highlight that this is an issue, and that requirements and services related to product passports should be considered in use cases for European research data infrastructures within materials.

Funding is acknowledged from Horizon Europe under grant agreements no. 101137725 (BatCAT) and 101138510 (DigiPass CSA).
