Description

Few staff across STFC are able to say that their work goes smoothly all the time – there can be frustrations, duplication of effort and delays in our processes and everyday tasks, which hold us up in achieving the work we were inspired to come here to do. Continuous improvement is how we work to resolve these issues, creating a work environment where staff are encouraged to identify problems and work with the right teams using the right tools to implement data-driven solutions that work. I will give an overview of continuous improvement in STFC, highlighting activities and successes to date, and presenting some tried-and-tested methods you can use to understand your own problems and improve your day-to-day work.

Biography of the speaker:

Helen has worked at STFC for 12 years, initially as a scientist in RAL Space working on Earth Observation instrumentation. Around 4 years ago, she moved into continuous improvement, first in RAL Space, and then across wider STFC. Helen's day-to-day work involves working with teams to understand how their work is currently done, helping to unearth where processes or activities aren’t currently working well, and encouraging teams to come up with measured solutions to save themselves time and effort and reduce frustration.
