The open day will be held as a hybrid meeting, online and in-person. UK-based students will be invited to come to RAL, while all others will be invited to participate online.

All participants (students & supervisors) should register. When registering, you can request accommodation for the night before the Open Day in the RAL hotel, in which case it will be booked & paid for by our secretariat. Students will be reimbursed for their UK travel costs, but those who are abroad should participate via Zoom.

A map to help you travel to RAL is map_to_RAL . A map showing you the inside of the RAL site is map_inside_RAL .

During the morning, we'll all be together to attend talks about all the PhD projects. At RAL, this will be in meeting room CR12/13 (in building R68), or you can join online via this PLENARY ZOOM LINK .

When the Open Day & chats are over, PhD applicants should fill in this SURVEY to let us know which of the PhD projects they would like to be considered for. (Can differ from your application, if you've changed your mind).

Individual discussions for applicants visiting RAL in person (23rd Feb.):

During the Open Day afternoon, each PhD project will be assigned an individual discussion room in building R1 (& a Zoom room listed below if a remote PhD supervisor is joining) and the project supervisors will have a series of 18 minute discussions (+ 2 mins for students to move between rooms) with individual students. Half this time is for the student to ask questions about the project and half is for the supervisors to ask questions to the student.  Applicants can sign up (with whiteboard & pen) for these discussions during the lunch break, and will already be signed up for a discussion on any project that they expressed a preference for in their application. Applicants who have a free 20 minute slot during the afternoon can also chat in the PPD Exhibition Area (R1 East wing) to PPD staff/students about life at RAL.

A photo of the whiteboard with the chat schedule will be uploaded HERE.

Individual discussions for applicants participating online (24th Feb.):

We are currently arranging chats via Zoom on 24th Feb. (or 27th Feb. for a a few projects) for those who can't come to RAL in person, using the Zoom rooms listed below. Online participants should sign up for these (but wait until the afternoon of 23rd Feb. after they have listened to the morning talks) via these (Doodle) Polls links. They can sign up for up to 6 of their favourite projects, but no more than one time slot for any given project.

Project 1, Project 2, Project 3, Project 4, Project 5, Project 6, Project 7, Project 8, Project 9, Project 10, Project 11 . (Missing links will be added).

Discussion rooms / Zoom links for each PhD project.
