Description

The STFC Particle Physics Technology Advisory Panel:

https://stfc.ukri.org/about-us/how-we-are-governed/advisory-boards/pptap/

which is producing a coherent UK R&D roadmap covering the areas of accelerators, detectors and Software & Computing (S&C), has produced a short survey and is organising a mini workshop to gather further input from the community on the S&C aspects of the roadmap. The survey and mini workshop, which cover the areas of S&C R&D needs, funding structure, training and synergies, build upon the PPTAP community-wide questionnaire and fact-finding discussions carried out earlier this year.

The aim of the survey is to gain a better understanding of the S&C aspects of the roadmap. Based on the initial questionnaire/discussions, we have identified areas where additional information and input would be useful to gauge the overall thoughts of the community. The link to the survey can be found below and will close on Friday 16th July 2021:

In addition, we will also be holding a virtual mini workshop on the afternoons of the 19th-20th July 2021, where the key points that will be outlined in the S&C roadmap, along with open points that need to be finalised, will be discussed. A provisional timetable can be found here:

https://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/331/

  • Day 1 will feature presentations from experiments, infrastructure and external experts to provide a more detailed overview of the S&C R&D requirements, challenges and synergies.
  • Day 2 will have sessions to discuss cross-cutting points for the UK Software & Computing R&D roadmap.

If you have an interest in helping to shape the S&C aspects of the R&D roadmap, we hope you will be able to complete the short survey and join the workshop. If you plan to attend any of the workshop, please do register (the button is just below this description) to allow us to send connection details and please also advertise the workshop to your groups and colleagues.
