The impact of large scale scientific infrastructure such as accelerators, observatories and big data centres cannot be denied. This presentation reflects on the environmental impacts of work practices and research infrastructure, highlights best practice and identifies the opportunities and challenges that such changes towards sustainability present for wider aspects of social responsibility. It will also discuss a few recent initiatives for sustainability in particle physics.
