The UK Plenary ECFA and ECR ECFA representatives would like to invite the UK community to a series of workshops aiming to increase UK engagement with studies for the physics briefing books that will be prepared towards the next update to the European Strategy for particle physics. We are planning two workshops; one half-day online meeting on 1st May and a 3-4 day in-person meeting in Durham (23-25/26 September).

As the deadline for input to the strategy is 31 March 2025, we will need to act quickly.  We anticipate that these workshops would engage with all aspects of the physics study, i.e. covering collider (including all future colliders) and non-collider physics.  The workshops would be organised and led by ECFA-UK members, bringing in external members to organise and chair sessions where this expertise is not available within the ECFA-UK membership.  The current ECFA-UK membership is Daniela Bortoletto, Sinead Farrington, Joel Goldstein, Haroon Rafique, Aidan Robson, Sarah Williams, Matthew Wing with Early Career ECFA UK members Julia Allen, Holly Pacey, Patrick Dougan and Atanu Modak. We propose to cover the following areas:

  • e+e- colliders (FCCee/ILC/CLIC/CepC/HALHF/C^3)
  • eh colliders (FCCeh/LHCeh)
  • 10 TeV pCM colliders ( FCChh/ muon collider)
  • Non-collider experiments and facilities:
    • Neutrinos
    • direct dark matter detection
    • other non-collider experiments and facilities
  • Quantum technologies

This will result in 7 separate streams of activity across the two workshops. The aim of the first workshop is to inform the community about the European Strategy Update, and for the session chairs to outline anticipated studies, current challenges and suggest areas/tasks where members of the community could contribute. The second workshop would also include overview talks on physics theme (e.g. electroweak physics, flavour, QCD, dark matter) and facilitate discussions of the ongoing studies.
