Description

This seminar will provide an overview of the computational maths theme within Scientific Computing.  The computational maths theme supports activities related to continuous optimisation (e.g., global and local optimization, data fitting), inverse problems (e.g., imaging and control) and numerical linear algebra (e.g., sparse matrix inversion, EigenSolvers, tensor methods and functions of matrices) and numerical analysis (e.g., stability and reliability of algorithms, exploiting mixed precision). This talk will discuss their activities, showcase some of the projects conducted with the STFC large facilities and their capabilities and expertise.

The Ada Lovelace Centre is currently seeking to engage with facilities to develop a new programme aligned to the strategic needs of the facilities.  This seminar is intended to increase awareness of the Computational Maths activities and prompt discussion on potential projects and activities which could enhance the science performed at the facilities. The seminar will be followed up with facility workshops in April/May for more detailed discussions on potential projects.
