DESCRIPTION:The unique properties of laser-driven proton and ion beams to
 transform particle beam therapy in automated\, compact\, high-throughput f
acilities will be discussed in the ‘Charged Particles for Cancer Therapy
' workshop series.\nThis\, the second workshop of the series\, will:\n\n\n
Review the state of the art in the capture\, focusing and transport of las
er-driven proton and ion beams\; \n\n\nDiscuss the various techniques tha
t have been proposed to provide the strong\, cylindrically-symmetric focus
 ing required efficiently to capture and transport laser-driven ion beams\;
and\n\n\nIdentify promising techniques that might form the basis of colla
 borative efforts to realise a practical\, sustainable\, and cost-effective
solution to the delivery of laser-driven proton and ion beams for science
\, innovation and society.\n\n\n \nThe workshop will include several over
view talks followed by an afternoon small-group discussion on key topics.
The discussion at the workshop and the conclusions drawn will be docume
nted in a 'White Paper' that will be published to provide the basis and un
derlying strategy for the future development of laser-driven charged parti
cle beams.  This workshop will call on scientific\, industry leaders in t
he field.\nThe first workshop in the series was entitled "International st
rategic review workshop\; what will be the unique advantages of laser driv
en charged particles" and took place at Imperial College London on 27Feb26
.  Future workshops will address the key scientific and technological cha
llenges that define the LhARA initiative.  The following workshops are pr
 esently under development:\n\nNovel time-resolved and high-resolution imag
ing\; and\nBiology\, measurement\, simulation and interpretation of ion be
 ams.\n\n\nhttps://indico.stfc.ac.uk/event/1956/
