Description

We will host a NEUT hackshop at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory the week commencing 2nd of December.

Accommodation:

Unfortunately because 'both beams are running' the RAL dormitory is full. There are semi-regular bus services from nearby megatropolises Didcot and Oxford and so accomodation along those bus routes are best. Some examples plucked from booking.com are listed below.

Oxford

Oxford is a unique, historic city, relatively close to the lab with lots of nightlife and things to do on a weekend if you stay before/after. Luke also lives in Oxford and may be able to run morning/evening taxi service to/from the lab.

The Old Black Horse Inn: near the ST1 bus route and near Cowley, a lively part of town.

The Jericho Hotel: Walking distance to the station, from where there is a bus to the lab. Jericho is a also a nice part of town with lots of pubs and bars.

Didcot:

Didcot is close to the lab and easy to get to from London by train.

Milton Hill House: A bit in the middle of nowhere Oxfordshire, but on the bus route, near to the lab and relatively inexpensive at the time of looking.

Courtyard by Mariott: At the highway interchange in Didcot. On the bus route, near to the lab, Didcot is well serviced by train. Not the cheapest, but not the worst.

Abingdon-on-Thames

Abingdon is a small town in south Oxfordshire, famous as the birthplace of the greatest rock band ever, Radiohead. Its not particularly convenient or lively, but Radiohead are excellent, so maybe there is something in the water.

Getting to RAL:

Planes: Heathrow to RAL is best done either via The Airline Bus to Oxford or a train into London and back out to Didcot Parkway depending on where you are staying.

Trains: The Harwell Campus itself does not have a train station, but semi-frequent bus services run from nearby Oxford and Didcot Parkway stations.

Automobiles: RAL can be reached by car via the A34, connecting to the M40 in the north and the M4 in the south. There is sufficient parking on site and a limited amount of EV charging.
